Own-goal rule: opinions wanted!
BY richardsmyth May 15, 2013
Hi again guys! For my column for Push hockey magazine this month, I’m taking a look at the “mandatory experiment” that is the own-goal rule. Personally, I’m with Jamie Dwyer: I think it stinks. But what do you guys think of it?
I’d love to hear lots of keepers’ opinions on this, so, whether you love it or hate it, let me know by dropping me a line at richardsmyth100@hotmail.com, or by tweeting me (I’m @1stAmongEquals1). Thanks!

I think it makes the game easier for umpires, anything in the goal is a goal, but its really frustrating as a goalie.

I’m both an umpire and a GK and have to agree – it simplifies umpiring no end (no more “did that catch the attacker or defender), but as a ‘keeper it can prove extremely tricky to deal with.
That said, my primary querry with the rule is that it seems to be at odds with the aim to increase safety – the OG rule has re-opened the “shell it into the circle” option.

To me it just further make me want to stop everything that comes in my circle. It does at times make me nervous.
The other week my team mates and opposition were arguing with umpire, which i might add the umpire was giving it right back, totally not paying attention to the game proceeded to call a goal against me, while the arguing was still happening, it was a very extremely messy goal, that in my opinion as well as a few spectators, shouldn’t have been called a goal
