Here is a oldie but a goodie from a South African magazine named Sports Illustrated.
This magazine featured an article that makes a comparison of kit worn between Shankar Lakshman, who was goalkeeper in the 1950’s and Chris Hibbert the current South African.
Shankar Lakshman was nicknamed the rock of Gibraltar…

anyone else surprised that hibbert is only using an ABS? surely you'd want a CK if you were playing internationals?

I personally don't think there's such a ridiculous difference in protection. It would take something special to take something off you with an ABS helmet on. And surely he's confident enough using it. I can't imagine he hasn't been hit in the helmet before, he obviously believes in their protective qualities.
